beneath the gulf

Beneath the Gulf is a story about 6 individuals who live under the Gulf Freeway in Houston, Texas. Each individual shares their own experience with homelessness and how it has affected their lives.

A year after these interviews were conducted, Houston experienced one of the most tragic natural disasters in the city’s history; Hurricane Harvey. The very freeway that these individuals lived under, was underwater. However, in Houstonian fashion, the city bounced back.

These tragic events and triumphs mirror some of these men and women’s stories. The book is printed with a rugged and distressed texture that truly represents the phrase “rough around the edges”, which some of our individuals have claimed to be.
